Boerner Botanical Gardens in Milwaukee demonstrates planting in swaths of color

I have been accepted into the UW-Extension Master Gardener Program and will be starting classes shortly at the Boerner Botanical Gardens located in Milwaukee. It is a volunteer program that trains interested adults in university research-based horticultural concepts and practices so they can assist the UW-Extension in providing educational programs to the public on yard care, gardening and garden-related environmental issues.

The beginning course for all volunteers provides an overview of major horticultural topics including: Basic Botany, Soils, Pest Management, Insects & Diseases, Weeds & Invasive Plant Species, General Gardening Practices, Garden Flowers, Trees & Shrubs, Fruits & Vegetables, Lawn Care and Backyard Wildlife.

Subjects are taught through presentations, group discussions and hands-on activities. The class content emphasizes university research-based information supported by the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

I will be sharing information on this blog about our training to become Master Gardeners in the hopes that others may join as well.
