When we visited New Orleans this February, we stayed in a Bed & Breakfast called the Lions Inn located just outside the French Quarter. Upon our arrival in New Orleans, we drove up the narrow street and parked in front of our Inn. There was a palm tree in front, a flower box with some bright flowers and a sleeping lion sculpture on the porch. The building looked pleasant, but it was situated very close to the front sidewalk like all of its neighbors.
We rang the doorbell and went inside. After checking in, we were given a tour of the back yard. What a difference! The whole space was beautifully done with a lot of tropical foliage and had a pool, a hot tub and a fish pond. The New Orleans people have a saying that “the beauty is in the back”. They spend very little space or effort on the front or public side of the house and concentrate their efforts on the back yard or private area. This was certainly true in our case.
Every night we were invited to a Happy Hour with wine & cheese, where we could mingle with the other guests and get to know some of our neighbors. We had plenty of time to visit with the owner and hear about the disaster they call “Katrina” and how she affected the lives of the people living in New Orleans.
In the morning, a very nice continental breakfast was provided before we set out to explore the city. The Lions Inn experience added a lot to our visit and I am very glad we chose this Bed & Breakfast instead of a regular hotel!

Loved your pictures of the back yard!
I have stayed at a bed & breakfast twice. They were great experiences too. Charming photos.
Yes, wonderful garden at Lions Inn.I stayed there last Easter, it wonderful sitting in the garden or walkong aroud, discovering all the details .
I have stayed at the Lion’s Inn twice & LOVED it both times. I was sorely disappointed to find out it was booked during my next visit. On my first visit, as we were saying goodbye, Floyd told me, “You’ve found your home whenever you are in New Orleans.” And That is exactly how he makes his guests feel.
