I went to our local garden center today just to buy potting soil and wander through the greenhouse section of the store enjoying the greenery and smelling the flowers. January may seem like an odd time to be visiting a garden center, but it is actually a good time to look for garden accessories. I saw a lot of garden art, fountains and sculptures that were marked down 40-50 percent.
The store was in the process of clearing out leftover holiday merchandise and beginning to set up displays for spring. The garden accessories on sale were mostly larger items that I am sure were from last year and were being cleared out to make room for new inventory. I was especially interested in the variety of fountains available, many of which were filled with circulating water and functioning nicely. Since I already have one fountain I did not buy one today, I only wandered through the garden section fantasizing which fountain I would get if only my garden was a bigger.
In the end, I purchased my potting soil, some new seeds for spring and a new garden book. It was a very good day!
